If you think watersports are only for the daredevils, you could not be further from the truth. There are so many watersports opportunities to choose from, anyone can find something they will like, regardless of their proficiency level. Here are our tips on what is worth trying! Especially that water activities are highly enjoyable, they activate all muscle groups and allow you to face a challenge.
Be a surfer
Surfing is probably the most frequently shown watersport in the movies because it is an extremely spectacular sport. And people are always interested when seeing a beachgoer carrying a surf board with one arm. We would say that the difficulty level of that discipline is medium; however, the instructor will consider your proficiency level – after all, you’ve got to start sometime. It may be difficult to stay on board as the waves come; however, practice makes perfect. There are plenty of surfing schools in Poland; you can find a lot of them in Hel or Chałupy, for example.
A board and a sail, or windsurfing
You will need the equipment, water, wind and a person who will give some valuable lessons to the beginners. In windsurfing, it is important that you know how to respond to changing weather conditions and take care of your safety. It requires a strong core. However, once you’ve mastered the basics, the pleasure you get from windsurfing is simply indescribable. And the adrenaline rush will do the rest. If you’re dreaming about windsurfing this summer, we recommend Zalew Rybnicki in Silesia – its total area is as much as 550 hectares!
Take it easy in a boat
Do you prefer a watersport where you don’t get too wet? Something even a total beginner can learn? You can rent a boat at any lake and it is a fantastic way to spend your spare time. Paddling is a great workout and you will get to admire spectacular views. Polish lakes really have a lot to offer – we recommend the Great Masurian Lakes District in particular.
With your head under the water, or snorkeling
Scuba diving seems way too complicated to you? Here’s our proposal for beginners: get a snorkel and you will be able to see a piece of the world beneath the waves, without having to get a special scuba diving suit or diving equipment. All you need is some goggles and a pair of flippers. This is also a wonderful family activity!
Get some adrenaline, or wakeboarding
Here’s an activity for those who like speed. Wakeboarding combines surfing (you have the wakeboard) and water skiing. You simply hold onto a tow rope tied to a board and as the boat pulls you forward, you glide on the waves. Emotions and a good time are guaranteed. What’s interesting, there are many wakeboard parks in Poland, where you can give it a try. Want to know if there is a wakeboard park near you? Use our search engine.
Enjoying the small waves while skimboarding
If surfing is too much for you, skimboarding will be an excellent alternative. All you need to do is take your board, start running, drop the board on the waves and try to step onto it. This sport is also known as “sandskimming” or “gliding on the waves”. Sounds easy? We can assure you that you will need to practice! It is an absolute blast while staying at the seaside.
Stand-up paddleboarding
This is a discipline that has many fans. In theory, all you need to do is stand on a board and paddle your way across the water; however, it takes a lot of concentration and effort to stay aboard. This is a great watersport families can do together. The boards come in many sizes so that everyone can find the right board for them.
